A Fauri's gender is impossible to tell until puberty, and even fully grown adults show very little sexual dimorphism. What difference there is belongs to the males: a longer tail and tufted ears, both purely ornamental. That suits Fauri society well enough - where males are seen as little more than decorative showpieces and expected to look the part.
In rare cases, a Fauri may be born with the ears or the tail of the opposite gender - though never both. A female tends to get away with it as a curiosity, while a male missing his tufts or his length of tail has a much harder time getting noticed.
