The FauriLore
Faunlings
Young Fauri are called faunlings. They're born with a mop of hair that gives no clue to the style it will grow into, with large floppy ears that they spend their whole childhood and adolescence growing into.
A faunling's gender cannot be told until puberty - faunlings grow with no knowledge of which role they will be expected to play in society and many are disappointed.
Raised by the males
The females provide and the males raise. Faunlings spend their early years among the males of their House, who feed them, groom them and keep them out of trouble.
A faunling's father is whichever male raised it. He may or may not be its sire, and it makes no difference to either of them: plenty of Fauri never meet their biological father at all.
